Fences for The Commons of Lake Houston
Acre-plus wooded lots on the east side of Lake Houston, with a boat ramp, horse trails, and deed restrictions.
About The Commons
Room to spread out by the lake
The Commons of Lake Houston is a deed-restricted subdivision in Huffman, the unincorporated community in northeast Harris County on the east side of Lake Houston. It's built in numbered sections, and many lots run about one to two acres, partly wooded. Shared amenities include a waterfront park with a boat ramp and piers, a pool, and horse and walking trails.
Lot size is what sets The Commons apart from most lake-area neighborhoods. Owners here often need two kinds of fence on one property: privacy close to the house, and a long, simple line around the rest of the land.

Before you fence in The Commons
- Deed restrictions. We check the restrictions for your section and get any needed approval before we build.
- Permits. No county permit outside the special flood hazard area. Inside an A or V zone, a Harris County permit with site plan and fence design is required.
- Property lines. On acreage, a survey matters. We set the fence from your survey or pins, not a guess.
- Trees and clearing. We clear only a narrow line for the fence and work around the trees you want to keep.
- Texas 811. We request utility locates before every dig.
Community and county rules change. We confirm what applies to your address before we quote, and we don't build until approvals are in hand.
Questions
The Commons of Lake Houston fence questions
Do you serve The Commons of Lake Houston?
Yes. We work across Huffman, including every section of The Commons. Estimates are free, and we’re open 7 days, 7 AM to 7 PM.
Do I need a permit?
The Commons is in unincorporated Harris County. A residential fence outside the special flood hazard area doesn’t need a county permit. Inside an A or V flood zone, the county requires one with a site plan and fence design. We check the flood map for your lot.
Can I fence my whole acre or two?
Usually, as long as the style fits your section’s deed restrictions. Many owners do cedar privacy around the house and yard and a rail or wire fence on the rest of the line. We confirm what’s allowed first.
Do you build horse fence?
Yes. The Commons has horse trails, and we build no-climb horse wire, board, and pipe fencing with H-braced corners. We price long runs by the foot in a written quote.
Can you add an automatic drive gate?
Yes. We build steel and cedar drive gates and install solar or wired openers, sized for trucks, trailers, and boats.
