Who sets the rules

Why the address comes first

Fence rules across this area come from very different places:

  • The Woodlands Township publishes Residential Development Standards, and village RDRCs approve nearly every fence.
  • The City of Houston (including Kingwood and Summerwood) requires a permit only for fences over 8 feet or masonry and concrete fences.
  • The City of Humble requires a fence permit inside city limits.
  • Unincorporated Harris County (much of Spring, Atascocita, and Huffman) needs a permit only in a mapped special flood hazard area.
  • Unincorporated Montgomery County (Porter, New Caney, and parts of Spring) needs a floodplain development permit for work in a mapped floodplain.
  • HOAs and deed restrictions apply on top of all of these in most neighborhoods.

Outside these areas? Our sister companies cover Conroe, Magnolia, and North Houston.
