About Walden

Lake, golf course, and big trees

Walden on Lake Houston began in 1984 on about 750 acres of piney woods. Lake Houston wraps it on the west and south, and West Lake Houston Parkway runs along the east side. At its center is the Walden on Lake Houston Golf & Country Club, an 18-hole course designed by Robert von Hagge and Bruce Devlin and founded the same year.

Homes are mostly single-family on large, wooded lots, in sections such as Olympic Village and Sportsman's Village. Many lots face the lake or the course, and some lie in the floodplain. A mandatory HOA maintains the common areas and enforces the deed restrictions.

That mix sets up the fence decisions. Water and fairway lots want an open back line. Interior lots want privacy. And anything near the shoreline has to handle high water.

What works here

Fences that suit Walden

Steel on the water

Powder-coated steel along the lake or fairway keeps the view, and it won't rot if the yard floods.

Ornamental steel →

Cedar privacy on the sides

Board-on-board cedar between neighbors, stepping down to steel where the yard opens to the view.

Privacy fences →

Pool barriers

Steel pool fences with self-closing, self-latching gates that keep the lake in sight.

Plan first

Before you fence in Walden

  • HOA approval. We check the deed restrictions for your section and submit the plan first.
  • Permits. No county permit outside the special flood hazard area. Inside an A or V zone, a Harris County permit with site plan and fence design is required.
  • Flood and shoreline. On lake lots we choose open designs and footings that let water pass.
  • Trees. We route the line around trunks and large roots.
  • Texas 811. We request utility locates before every dig.

Community and county rules change. We confirm what applies to your address before we quote, and we don't build until approvals are in hand.

Questions

Walden on Lake Houston fence questions

Do you serve Walden on Lake Houston?

Yes. We work throughout Atascocita, including every section of Walden. Estimates are free, and we’re open 7 days, 7 AM to 7 PM.

Do I need a county permit?

Atascocita is unincorporated Harris County. A residential fence outside the special flood hazard area doesn’t need a county permit. Some Walden lots near the lake are in the floodplain, and inside an A or V zone the county requires a permit with a site plan and fence design. We check the flood map for your address.

What fence works on a lakefront or golf course lot?

Black powder-coated steel is the usual choice. It keeps the view of the water or fairway and stands up to wet ground. We confirm what the HOA allows on the back line before we quote.

Do I need HOA approval?

Yes. Walden has a mandatory HOA that enforces deed restrictions. We prepare the drawing, materials, and color for your submittal and build after it’s approved.

Can you work around the big pines and oaks?

Yes. Walden is heavily wooded, so we lay out the line to clear trunks and big roots and adjust post spacing as needed.
