About Bear Branch
Old trees, old fences, and a nature area next door
Bear Branch Village is one of Kingwood's early villages. Its covenants date to 1974, and the median home was built in 1978. It has about 1,091 single-family homes, zoned to Humble ISD with Bear Branch Elementary, Creekwood Middle, and Kingwood High. The entrance to the Creekwood Nature Area, a 50-acre preserve with hiking trails owned by the Kingwood Service Association, is at the end of Maple Park Drive.
The Bear Branch Village association reviews exterior changes through an architectural committee. Applications go through the TownSq portal and cost nothing to submit. Projects built without approval can be treated as violations.
Most fence work here is replacing fences that have stood for decades under heavy shade, and setting new posts between roots that have had 50 years to spread.
What works here
Fences that suit Bear Branch
Cedar shadowbox
Shadowbox cedar lets air move through, so the fence dries faster under the trees and looks finished from both sides.
Wood & cedar →Steel along greenbelts
Where a yard faces a greenbelt or wooded edge, black powder-coated steel keeps it open.
Ornamental fences →Pet-safe yards
Tight bottoms and solid gates keep dogs in when there are squirrels and deer just past the fence.
Pet fences →Plan first
Before you fence in Bear Branch
- Architectural approval. Submit through TownSq with a drawing and photos. We prepare both.
- Timing. Allow up to 45 days for a decision. We book the build when the approval letter arrives.
- Permits. City of Houston permit only for fences over 8 feet or masonry and concrete fences.
- Trees. We move posts and adjust spacing around big roots instead of cutting them.
- Flood map. We check the FEMA map for your address and plan footings and drainage gaps to match.
- Texas 811. We request utility locates before every dig.
Community and city rules change. We confirm what applies to your address before we quote, and we don't build until approvals are in hand.

How long does approval take?

Usually not. The city requires a fence permit only for fences over 8 feet or for masonry and concrete fences.
