Fences for Elm Grove
A north Kingwood village of about 1,400 homes, built out in 1982, where many fences have been rebuilt after the 2019 floods.
About Elm Grove
An early Kingwood village on the north side
Elm Grove Village sits near West Lake Houston Parkway and Northpark Drive in north Kingwood. It has about 1,418 single-family homes, built out by 1982, and is zoned to Humble ISD, with Elm Grove Elementary in the village. Like the rest of Kingwood, it's in Harris County and inside the City of Houston.
Elm Grove flooded in 2019. In May of that year, hundreds of homeowners in Elm Grove and North Kingwood Forest sued the builders of Woodridge Village, the tract upstream, saying it had been cleared without detention. Harris County and the city bought that 268-acre site in 2021 for a regional detention facility.
For a fence here, that history matters. We build with standing water in mind: deeper posts, gaps at the bottom so water can pass, and materials that dry out.
What works here
Fences that suit Elm Grove
Cedar on steel posts
Board-on-board cedar on galvanized steel posts. Steel doesn't rot at grade when the yard stays wet.
Wood & cedar →Storm and flood repair
Leaning runs, broken rails, and gates that won't latch, repaired or replaced to match the rest of the fence.
Repair →Composite
Composite boards don't swell or rot, which suits low spots that hold water after a storm.
Composite →Plan first
Before you fence in Elm Grove
- Village approval. We check your section's deed restrictions and submit the plan first.
- Permits. City of Houston permit only for fences over 8 feet or masonry and concrete fences.
- Flood and drainage. We check the FEMA map for your address and keep the fence from blocking the way water leaves your yard.
- Old posts. We pull or cut out old footings so new posts sit in firm ground.
- Texas 811. We request utility locates before every dig.
Community and city rules change. We confirm what applies to your address before we quote, and we don't build until approvals are in hand.
Questions
Elm Grove fence questions
Do you serve Elm Grove Village?
Yes. We work across Kingwood, including all of Elm Grove. Estimates are free, and we’re open 7 days, 7 AM to 7 PM.
Do I need a City of Houston permit?
Not for most fences. Elm Grove is inside Houston city limits, where a fence permit is needed only above 8 feet or for masonry and concrete fences.
My fence came through a flood. Can you just fix the leaning sections?
Often, yes. Standing water softens the soil around posts and rots wood at grade. We check each post. Where they’re still solid, we straighten and reset. Where they’ve rotted, we replace them, and we’ll put it all in a written quote.
Is the Woodridge Village site still a flood risk?
Harris County and the City of Houston bought the 268-acre Woodridge Village tract in 2021 to turn it into regional stormwater detention. That work is a public project. For your fence, we look at your own lot’s drainage and flood map.
Do I need village approval?
Plan on it. Kingwood villages are deed restricted and review fence changes. We prepare the submittal and wait for approval before we build.
