About College Park

The college town of The Woodlands

College Park opened in 1995 and is named for the higher-education campuses inside it, Lone Star College-University Center and Sam Houston State University-The Woodlands Center. It's one of the smaller villages, with homes on both sides of I-45. The village also has three hospitals, two active adult communities, six parks, and The Woodlands College Park High School.

College Park addresses include 77384, and Harper's Landing, on the east side of I-45, is in 77385.

Lots tend to be compact, and some back to busier roads, which can change the allowed fence height. Fence approvals go through the College Park Residential Design Review Committee.

Plan first

Before you fence in College Park

  • Approvals. New fences and repairs over 8 linear feet need written approval from the College Park RDRC through the Civic Access Portal.
  • Height. 7'6" for solid fences on most lots, 8'6" along designated arterial and collector streets, 6'6" for see-through.
  • Permits. College Park is in unincorporated Montgomery County. A county floodplain development permit applies only in a mapped floodplain. We check the map for your address.
  • Trees. Trees over 6 inches in diameter can't be removed for a fence.
  • Texas 811. We request utility locates before every dig.

Community and county rules change. We confirm what applies to your address before we quote, and we don't build until approvals are in hand.

Questions

College Park fence questions

Do you serve College Park?

Yes. Our office is at 1401 Lake Plaza Dr in Spring, just off I-45 near The Woodlands, and we work in College Park on both sides of the freeway, including Harper’s Landing.

My back fence faces a busy road. Can it be taller?

On the portion that runs along a designated arterial, major thoroughfare, or collector street, a solid fence can be up to 8’6” instead of 7’6”. We check whether the street behind you is on that list.

My yard is small. Will a fence make it feel smaller?

It can. Horizontal cedar or a clean board-on-board design looks finished from the patio. We check your neighborhood criteria first, since some streets require a specific fence design.

Can I put a short fence inside my backyard without approval?

An interior fence no taller than 4 feet is pre-approved, as long as it isn’t used to hold animals, doesn’t act as or weaken a pool barrier, and can’t be seen from the street or a neighbor’s yard at ground level.

Do I need the RDRC for a repair?

Only if more than 8 linear feet is replaced, redesigned, rebuilt, or moved. Smaller fixes generally don’t need an application.
