Fences for Sterling Ridge
Opened in 1999 west of Kuykendahl Road, with two golf courses and the gated Carlton Woods.
About Sterling Ridge
Golf lots on the west side
Sterling Ridge opened in 1999, the year The Woodlands marked its 25th anniversary, and the name honors that "sterling silver" milestone. It sits west of Kuykendahl Road in ZIP 77382 and was built out by 2005. The George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library and the South Montgomery County YMCA are here, along with parks like Cranebrook, Terramont, and Artist Grove.
Golf is a big part of the village. The Woodlands Country Club's Gary Player course opened here in 2002, and the gated Carlton Woods community has the Jack Nicklaus course, which opened in 2001.
Homes here went up between 1999 and 2005, so many builder fences are reaching the end of their life. Course lots have a rear-line rule. The Sterling Ridge Residential Design Review Committee reviews fences here.

Ornamental steel →Board-on-board upgrade
Replace a worn builder fence with stained board-on-board cedar and a cap for a cleaner top line.
Privacy fences →Drive and side gates
Steel-framed gates that stay square, for side yards and drives on larger lots.
Gates →Plan first
Before you fence in Sterling Ridge
- Approvals. New fences and repairs over 8 linear feet need written approval from the Sterling Ridge RDRC through the Civic Access Portal. Carlton Woods may add its own criteria.
- Golf course lots. No solid fence on the rear line. Plan on see-through steel up to 6'6".
- Permits. Sterling Ridge is in unincorporated Montgomery County. A county floodplain development permit applies only in a mapped floodplain. We check the map for your address.
- Trees. Trees over 6 inches in diameter can't be removed for a fence.
- Texas 811. We request utility locates before every dig.
Community and county rules change. We confirm what applies to your address before we quote, and we don't build until approvals are in hand.

Questions
Sterling Ridge fence questions
Do you serve Sterling Ridge?
Yes. Our office is at 1401 Lake Plaza Dr in Spring, just off I-45 near The Woodlands, and we work throughout Sterling Ridge, including Carlton Woods.
My home backs to the Player Course. What can I build on the back line?
Not a solid fence. The Township standards don’t allow solid fences along the rear property line of golf course lots. Powder-coated steel up to 6’6” keeps the course view and meets the rule.
Do you work inside Carlton Woods?
Yes. Carlton Woods follows The Woodlands standards, and it may have its own neighborhood criteria too. We check both before we design.
My fence is about 20 years old. Replace or repair?
It depends on the posts. If they’re solid, new pickets or a stain may carry it for years. If posts are rotting at the ground, it’s usually time for a new fence, which needs RDRC approval.
Can I use metal posts with my cedar fence?
Only galvanized steel posts up to 2 inches in diameter on the inside of a solid fence, or the posts of a wrought iron style fence. Stamped metal posts aren’t allowed.
